How to save even more

🏷
Aldi & Asda win on basics

For everyday staples like carrots, broccoli, spinach and bananas, Aldi and Asda are consistently 30–50% cheaper than Waitrose and Sainsbury's with no quality difference.

📅
Buy in season for the biggest savings

In-season fruit at any supermarket is significantly cheaper than out-of-season imports. Strawberries at Aldi in June (£1.09) vs Waitrose in January (£3+) is a 3× price difference.

🛒
Mix and match supermarkets

Nobody says you have to do one shop. Buy fruit and veg from Aldi or Asda, specialist items from Sainsbury's. The weekly saving on produce alone can be £10–15 for a family.

🧊
Buy large and freeze

When Aldi or Asda run promotions on berries, buy a double quantity and freeze half. Frozen berries are just as nutritious and save you paying full price mid-winter.

🌿
Forage what you can for free

Blackberries, elderflower, sloes and crab apples cost literally nothing. A single afternoon in August or September can fill your freezer with berries that'd cost £20+ in a supermarket.

Shop reduced sections

Most supermarkets reduce fruit and veg 25–50% near end of day, typically 6–8pm. Imperfect produce tastes identical. Great for batch cooking and freezing the same day.
